Be The Change You Want To See; Transition Yourself Through Change
71
A tiny stem emerges through the hardened soil, triumphant in its transition from a sprouted seed to a single, slender, glorious stem.
A caterpillar wraps itself into a dark cocoon and begins the transformation inside a silvery chrysalis, laboring to emerge as a delicate, vibrantly colorful butterfly.
A baby positioned to make its entry into the awaiting world follows the cues of the mother's body, as it contracts and opens and expands to make ready the birth canal for the baby's grand voyage into living, open, breath life.
Change Comes In Different Stages
Change comes in different stages, but it's never the beginning or the end that is the most difficult, it is the period of transition which requires the most focus and labor. Transition is the bridge that makes change possible. The time required varies according to conditions. But in most cases, it does mean transformation is eminent.
The stem will continue to grow and a flower will appear, providing all conditions are favorable. The flower may attract the bees and butterflies to provide nectar for the continuing propagation of life.
The butterfly will continue to grow and feed and nourish throughout its short life cycle. They remind us of of the beauty and fragility of life.
The newborn will grow rapidly and continue to form throughout different stages of it's life until adulthood is reached. The adult will also continue to adapt and go through life stages until the final passage of death.
How To Make Transition Less Difficult
How can we make the transition of change less difficult? Being prepared to the best of our ability can always help. Realizing there will be necessary shifts to accelerate or decelerate the process can help cushion the uncertainty and apprehensive period that often accompanies this transitional phase. Realizing that it is a crucial and necessary part of change, and that it won't last forever, can help us focus on moving through the uneasiness. Focusing on the end goal with visualization, meditation, yoga or by practicing body relaxation techniques can help calm the mind and body. A simple calming breath can help relax the mind and body.
Don't Give up During The Transitional Phase
As human beings, we can add emotional layers to help ease a transition, by using humor, empathy, compassion, resolve, tenacity, courage and understanding. We can even forewarn others to bear with us and support us while we make the transformation from cocoon to butterfly.
As humans we can reach out and support and encourage and cheer each other on as we make the necessary transitions that life requires from each of us. If we fail to make it through the transitional period, the change is not complete. The transformation will be delayed or suspended when change was eminent. Don't give up!
"Be The Change You Want To See In The World"
Whether it be the transition of birth, to middle school, to college graduate, to first job, to marriage, to fatherhood, to new job, to new home, to loss, to widowhood, to disability, to retirement, to whatever life changes we face, we can ease the transition by accepting that change is a dynamic, essential part of life. Making a change in character or lifestyle requires a good look in the mirror, and wanting to make the very best of our human existence.
Although not always easy, we should embrace change and realize by doing so, our own human potential enlarges and expands. Life is a journey, make it amazing! "Be the change you want to see in the world" Mahatma Gandhi

Change is something that lots of people find really difficult, so thanks for this hub. The only certainty we have in life is change, so we do need to learn to embrace it
What a brilliant reminder of change. Awesome hub! I love your choice of YouTube - Michael Jackson too - gotta be an all time favourite!
Change is usually something I dread and then most of the time it turns out better than I expected. This is a very good article about change and the stages we experience.
Hey Rebekah, very well written hub. Thumbs up! However, humans are very feeble individuals on their own. Many of them do not like change. Change is not always seen as a good thing, which is because fear of the unknown. Many people are very happy to remain ignorant in their ways. I've written a couple of hubs on change/difference each of can make, not only to our own life, but to other people's life as well. I am not posting the links to them, because the hubs are only somewhat relevant. But, the titles are "A Single Conscious Mind Changes World" and "How Humanity Habitat- Changing Life- We Can Make A Difference" are the hubs, if you care to see them. If people truly understood their life, then they wouldn't be afraid of change, regardless of the unknown factors involved. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful hub. :)
Awesome hub, I enjoyed it alot.

Very inspiring hub and you made this so beautiful. I got new motivation after reading this hub. Well done, my friend. Rated up!

Thanks for the inspiration. It's hard in life trying to create something original or from scratch, so sometimes you're better off just ignoring those naysaying voices in your head and getting on with the work. Excellent hub.
Hi Rebekah, it feels like the last few years were all transition. You have watched it take place as the persona of Winsome took shape here on HP. The scattered flotsam of the "big bang" of separation gathered into a cohesive and focused realization that no matter what changes around me, I can control only my own attitude and response. It feels more comfortable when I build from what I know and what I enjoy. Thanks for your part in that transformation. As Tony says,
Peace and love. =:)
What an awesome Hub rebekah. "Be the Change" has always had a bit of a lofty, esoteric ring to it which makes it difficult to define. Your Hub says it all with style and power. Great stuff! Self discovery of the need to change is the start. Not being fearful of the transformation begins the journey. Thanks for the link to Winsome's Hub too. (one of my favorite authors here).
As I often say, just wait five minutes and everything will change. But change is so so hard. We all seem to resist it when things are going well, welcome it and look for it when things are going badly. Either way, inevitably, changes always does and will come. Thank you for your insightful article. I enjoy many of the same interests as you.
This is such a wise and inspiring article. Thank you for sharing.
And sometimes you wanna change something but you can't even pin point exactly what that is.. You'll just know there is something that should change.. but then feel hopeless and clueless about the whole thing, maybe for decades even.
Very well said and so true. I have a few changes i want to make with my life that will be very different. This is a true and inspirational hub. great work. voted awesome
Hi another inspiring piece of work, which you have penned in your unique style. Your work is always a pleasure to read, thank you for sharing. Best wishes to you.
Hi rebekALLE, I get comfortable and set in my ways then become scared of change, but things are changing around us all the time and we have to move on, this is beautifully written and inspiring, I look forward to reading more of your work, thank you.
Thanks for this hub - useful! It reminds me of one thing I learned long ago but had forgotten over the years - I have the power to create the life I want. Quite empowering message you have here. Thanks again :)
Excellent opening, awesome hub! Dealing with transitions is a constant feature of life, best for us to accept that as fact and learn how to deal with it. Transitions and changes are also part of our growth as a person, I feel that it would be foolish to fight it. Reminds me of a de la Rouchefoucauld quote, "the only thing constant in life is change." Thanks for sharing this rebekahELLE.
I happened upon this Hub kind of by accident, and it turned out to be one that kind of hits home for me. I know this isn't what the Hub is aimed at (and that comparing life change to this will seem shallow and inappropriate), but I've been in a transition with my writing for some time now. What was was once simple has now become, essentially, a big, complicated, half-baked, mess! I know where I'm aiming, but a) it's taking forever, and b) I just seem to be creating a bigger and bigger mess with each new step.
So anyway, although this may not be quite what you had in mind in writing this Hub, I've particularly appreciated being reminded of that "transition factor" in growth. Basically, I just haven't been thinking in terms of transition and have, instead, been thinking in terms of where I was, where I'd like to be, and the fact that I've seemed stuck in "limbo" for ages now. So, although I know your Hub wasn't aimed at me and my little writing "issues", thank you for the reminder about the transition factor.
I think that the hardest transition is losing loved ones to death which of course is inevitable. Nice to have the support of friends and family through all types of transitions and changes which come along in life. Useful hub. Thanks!
What a great hub! Change is a great topic, because we all experience it often in our lives. I have written about change a while back in my hubs. We have to change, yet we hate change too. The analogy of the butterfly and the transition of the baby child is wonderful her too. Cheers!
Hi, rebekah. Indeed, change is a process that we all go through constantly in life. What makes a person resists the occurrence of change is when he is stucked to the comfort zone of his own world. Life is dynamic and we don't expect it to be as it is infinitely. In organizations, in our status in life, love, technology, you name it, and everything continuously evolve into something that we haven't known in the past. The best attitude is to welcome change as an opportunity to exude the best that you can be in the transition period. Definitely, resistance may exist but when we realize that we cannot evade the occurrence of change do we immediately recognize the value of having changes in our system and generally in our life.
Comforting and inspiring words for those who must accept change - that is, all who live, for life is change.
Very profound words of wisdom and it came right at a time that I needed reminding of the way I should see myself at the end of my end goals and transitioning path!
Cheers now!
This was a truly inspiring hub and I'm so glad that I got to read it.
Changes in our lives are most of the times healthy, but that doesn't mean it comes easy. However to be afraid and stick to familiarity all the life, is life without living.
Voted up and if there was a button for "inspirational" I would like to have checked that, but you got awesome instead!

Change is a good thing in my life but the transitionary period is not always easy. A very inspiring hub.

I'm experiencing great change currently as I quit my day job and went into working for my self full time as a web developer, so I have been going through a great deal of transitional changes.
Many changes one may go through won't always be the most pleasant, by if you stay the course I've learned many times over that it definitely sprouts a better outlook overall. Outstanding hub here @ rebekahELLE.
Voted up on every level except for funny, because this change thing you wrote about is a serious matter for us all.
Very beautiful hub. You did a wonderful job presenting this material. I like how you talked about transition within the change...sometime we forget that change is not an overnight occurrence and will take time. We will move through various stages as we become what we want to become. Thanks for sharing a great hub!
